I’m honored to be sharing the stage as a guest on the Choro Suite, arranged by Felipe Senna, with some great folks in the Berkeley Choro Ensemble and Diablo Symphony Orchestra, including featured pandeiro soloist Brian Rice, and guest bassoonist Paul Hanson!
——
This varied program highlights a range of beautiful music from Brazil, including the world premiere of a concerto for pandeiro, the Brazilian tambourine. We also premiere local composer Jean Ahn’s new work for the Diablo Symphony’s 60th anniversary and present Milhaud’s uproarious work, envisioned to be played with any film by Charlie Chaplin, providing a lighthearted finale to the season.
Jean Ahn – Many Hues of Green (world premiere, DSO commission to celebrate Diamond Jubilee Anniversary)
Clarice Assad – Brazilian Fanfare
Felipe Senna – Choro Suite & Concerto for Pandeiro and Orchestra (world premiere)
Darius Milhaud – Le Bœuf sur le Toit (with screening of Charlie Chaplin’s The Adventurer)
