Brazilian Music Friday Feature #14

This week’s pick is the pianist Hercules Gomes playing one of his originals, the explosive Nação Primeira (First Nation). I first discovered him when I was looking on YouTube for performances of pieces by Ernesto Nazareth - he plays these and other choros virtuosically, but also tackles many other Brazilian styles with gusto, both in solo piano and trio format.

I was also excited to find that he has sheet music for this piece and several others on his website here. My fingers will soon be getting a workout!

This performance of Nação Primeira is from a recital he played at the Museu no Casa Brasileira in São Paulo, and I definitely recommend listening to the entire concert:

Enjoy the music, and your weekend!
