Brazilian Music Friday Feature #1
Because there is an unending supply of great music, I'm starting a new series featuring a different Brazilian song each Friday - celebrate the coming weekend with some great tunes!
This week's pick: the DVD Alma Lírica Brasileira by Monica Salmaso (in its entirety on YouTube). Most of these tunes are performed in a sparse way, which really highlights her rich, expressive voice. Watching this made me want to check out all of her other work.
Also, I have two fun Brazilian music gigs coming up next weekend, here in Minneapolis:
Friday, Oct. 14: my accordion debut(!) with Samba Meu at Squirrel Haus Arts. I'll be playing a few Brazilian forró tunes, and playing various percussion instruments the rest of the night.
Sunday, Oct 16: solo Brazilian piano set at the Dow Building as part of the St. Paul Art Crawl. Samba, choro, and a little baião and maracatu, too.
